A Promise is a Promise, an enchanting play full of promise

January 23, 2002 – The Festival 4-15, Ottawa Festival of the Arts for Young Audiences in partnership with the Canadian Children’s Museum at the Theatre, Canadian Museum of Civilization presents Geordie Theatre Productions, A Promise is a Promise, on Saturday, February 2 and Sunday, February 3, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.00 (plus G.S.T.) each, which includes admission to the Canadian Children’s Museum; assigned seating will be given on a first-come first-served basis.

Co-written by one of Canada’s favourite children’s storytellers Robert Munsch and Inuit writer Michael Kusugak comes this classic adaptation of a famous Inuit Arctic legend. When Allashua, a young Inuit girl, ignores her mother’s warning to stay away from the cracks in the ocean ice, she comes face to face with the Quallupillut – the mysterious gain trolls that dwell beneath the surface. In a moment of desperation, to save her life Allashua makes a promise that endangers her whole family.

A Promise is a Promise, Geordie Theatre’s longest running play, has played at the prestigious international showcase of the performing arts for young people at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Young People’s Theatre in Toronto, and has played over 447 performances in North America to date. This show combines puppetry, music, dance, ingenious undersea design effects and invites children from audiences to participate in the action.

Geordie Theatre Productions is a Montreal-based theatre company that has been touring A Promise is a Promise since 1994, and has entertained audiences across Canada, and the United States.
