Your Ancestors of European Origin on the Web!
Hull, Quebec, February 14, 2002 – Oyez, oyez! Aficionados of history and genealogy, take note! Our Ancestors of European Origin: Genealogy and Family History, on the Virtual Museum of New France Web site, now has 254 new family histories and more than 2,000 illustrations.
The 254 new texts tell the fascinating stories of ancestors who set out from France to build our country. The Dupuis, Héberts, Coutus, Marquis and many other pioneers come to life in the vibrant writing of journalist and writer Robert Prévost, author of Portraits de familles pionnières, which is published by Éditions Libre Expression. The 254 new family histories are currently available in French only. One hundred of these will available online in English by April 2002. The remainder will be made available in English in the coming year.
Over the past year, the site has also acquired more than 2,000 illustrations, including family crests, portraits, period houses and works of art.
Family histories and illustrations may now be purchased directly on line at a cost of five dollars apiece. Since its creation in November 2000, Our Ancestors of European Origin has helped improve dissemination of available knowledge on the families who came to settle in New France up to 1825. The information is contained in six databases: marriages, places of origin, family histories, documents, illustrations and chronology. The site Our Ancestors of European Origin: Genealogy and Family History is the only Web site that groups genealogy, history and family histories.
Our Ancestors of European History is produced by the Museum of New France of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation, in collaboration with Archiv-Histo, an organization devoted to the history and knowledge of the archives of old Quebec. The module is located on the site of the Virtual Museum of New France — the largest Web site devoted to the history of New France, with 750,000 visitors per year.
