Ottawa Public Library Partners with Canadian Museum of Civilization
Ottawa, May 14, 2002 - Ottawa residents can soon “borrow” their way into Canada’s largest museum, thanks to a partnership between the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC) and the Ottawa Public Library (OPL - http://www.opl.ottawa.on.ca ).
Beginning June 10, 2002, people can use their library cards to sign out a Privilege Card from any OPL branch. The Privilege Card allows a family of four to discover - or rediscover - the excitement of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, including the Canadian Postal Museum and the Canadian Children’s Museum, or the Canadian War Museum, at no cost.
President and CEO of the CMCC Dr. Victor Rabinovitch and OPL Board Chair Rick Chiarelli launched the partnership at a meeting of the Ottawa Public Library Board last night.
“This partnership with the Library will give residents another way of coming into the Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum,” said Dr. Rabinovitch. “I hope it will encourage Ottawa families to visit the Museum more often, because our frequently changing exhibitions and programmes are great for knowledge and fun,” he added.
“This is an exciting new way for the Ottawa Public Library to serve our clients,” said Chair Rick Chiarelli. “We have always been a centre of learning, and this partnership is a way for us to extend our services into the community.”
Dr. Rabinovitch turned over 50 of the Privilege Cards to the Library. There will always be 50 cards in circulation, and they will be housed in each of the Library’s 33 branches plus the bookmobile. The cards, which are in CD cases, can be borrowed for up to one week at a time.
