"Borrow” a visit to the Canadian Museum of Civilization

Gatineau, Quebec, September 20, 2002 — As of today, there is a new way for residents of the city of Gatineau to visit the largest museum in Canada free of charge.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC) is proud to join forces with Gatineau’s Municipal Library and the Centre régional de services aux bibliothèques publiques de l’Outaouais (CRSBPO) to offer a Museum Privilege Card that can be borrowed by library members. The card provides free admission for a family of four to the Canadian Museum of Civilization, which houses the Canadian Postal Museum and the Canadian Children’s Museum, and the affiliated Canadian War Museum.

Victor Rabinovitch, President of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation, spoke of the importance of the partnership between the Museum and the Outaouais libraries: “This partnership will make the museums even more accessible to everyone living in our region. The Canadian Museum of Civilization is already the most popular museum in Canada, and we are anxious to share our exhibitions, our programmes and our collections with the widest possible public.”

The partnership with the Outaouais libraries is similar to an agreement that already exists with the Ottawa Public Library. Besides assisting access to the museums, this innovative programme links institutions that promote education and are dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge. Mr. Rabinovitch added: “This is an entirely natural collaboration that helps to encourage the pursuit of knowledge and life-long learning.”

The first users of the Museum Privilege Card will be able to visit the special exhibition Vikings: The North Atlantic Saga, which has been an unprecedented success with the public. The exhibition continues until October 14, 2002. The Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum continuously offer a fascinating range of exhibitions and programmes aimed at people of all ages and appealing to a variety of interests.
