3... 2... 1... Space Station to launch at the IMAX Theatre

Daily departures to the International Space Station begin on October 11, 2002

Gatineau, October 11, 2002 — Starting October 11, 2002, audiences will be able to blast off into orbit, and float high above Earth with Space Station, presented on the IMAX® DOME at the Canadian Museum of Civilization’s IMAX Theatre. The fifth collaborative effort between the IMAX Corporation, Lockheed Martin Corporation and NASA – the team that produced The Dream is Alive, Blue Planet, Destiny in Space, and Mission to MIR – takes the viewer aboard humankind’s first attempt at life in space.

Profiling a unique partnership which combines the resources of sixteen nations in an unprecedented space endeavour, Space Station is a tale of challenges, setbacks and triumph. Combined with incredible film footage from Space, and an in-depth look at the International Space Station – the inside and out – it is a fantastic large-format experience. With images transporting them to the heart of the action, audiences will discover the incredible thrill of space-walks, life in zero-gravity, and the challenges of day-to-day life in orbit, 354 kilometres above Earth. While experiencing the excitement of life in Space, and the unique sensation of floating high above their home planet, viewers will be introduced to the astonishing achievements of this collaborative international effort.

Space Station is produced by Toni Myers and features narration by Tom Cruise. With over 80 large-format theatres signed to play Space Station, it is the largest release to date for the IMAX Corporation.

Also on the Theatre’s schedule this fall is India – Kingdom of the Tiger – currently showing on the IMAX screen. Both films will run through the fall season.
