The Dead Sea Scrolls and Christian Origins
A lecture at the Canadian Museum of Civilization


Gatineau, Quebec, February 26, 2004 - Discovered a half century ago, the Dead Sea Scrolls are widely regarded as the most important archaeological find relating to the Bible and Jewish and Christian origins. On Thursday, March 4, at 6:30 p.m. join Dr. Craig Evans, Payzant Distinguished Professor of New Testament at Acadia Divinity College, Acadia University, in Nova Scotia, for a discussion on The Dead Sea Scrolls and Christian Origins.

Prior to his appointment at Acadia University, Dr. Evans was Visiting Fellow at Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey, he taught at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and he was for 21 years Professor of Biblical Studies at Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia. A prolific lecturer on the Bible and on archaeology, Dr. Evans has authored forty books and over 200 articles and is currently co-authoring a book called The Dead Sea Scrolls and Christian Origins.

The lecture is free, but tickets are required. Free tickets will be available in person only at the Museum Box Office starting at 4:30 p.m. the day of the lecture. First come, first served. There is no reserved or assigned seating. It is recommended that those wishing to attend arrive early. Please note that admission to the Museum is free every Thursday after 4 p.m.

The Dead Sea Scrolls and Christian Origins and related lectures by biblical scholars and archaeological experts are organized in conjunction with Ancient Treasures and the Dead Sea Scrolls, an exhibition of priceless archaeological discoveries from the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, that cover more than 1,000 years in the evolution of Judaism and early Christianity. The exhibition is presented at the Museum until April 12, 2004.

This lecture is presented in English with simultaneous translation into French.

Due to unprecedented interest in Ancient Treasures and the Dead Sea Scrolls, the exhibition will remain open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings until 7:00 p.m. Regular admission fees apply.
