Lacemaking the New France Way
December 4 and 12 — 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Gatineau, Quebec, November 26, 2004 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization invites the public to enjoy demonstrations of the ancient art of lacemaking on Saturday, December 4 and Sunday, December 12, to complement their visit to the major exhibition Once in French America. The Ottawa Guild of Lacemakers will explain some of the traditions surrounding this art, which was once taught to young girls during the New France era.

Once in French America is a major exhibition which marks the 400th anniversary of French settlement in North America, exploring how people lived and developed new social structures. The exhibition features an unprecedented array of 500 artifacts dating to the sixteenth and seventeeth centuries, from 40 collections in Canada, the U.S.A. and Europe. The exhibition will be presented in the Museum’s Gallery C until March 28, 2005

For more information, the public may call 776-7000 or 1-800-555-5621.
