The story of hockey immortal Maurice "The Rocket" Richard, with treasures from his own memorabilia collection, fan scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, photographs, videos and rare artifacts, all showing the special relationship of Number 9 to Quebec and Canada.

This exhibition will present artifacts from the The Maurice "Rocket" Richard Collection from 1940 to 1960. Those objects are particularly resonant to Canadians, telling one of the central stories of Canada's cultural, political, and social history.

Highlights include a 3D timeline of his goal-scoring career, photos and accounts of the 1955 "Richard Riot", paintings of The Rocket in action, a Maurice Richard lamp, Rocket soup and Rocket bread wrap, plus the last Number 9 sweater he wore as a playing member of the Canadiens. Come and listen to songs about The Rocket, and see how the Canadian $5 bill is a memorial to this hockey legend.

The Maurice Richard story begins in the world of sport, but quickly transcends it to speak about Canada at a particular juncture in its history, when French Canada was in the process of redefining its relationship with the rest of the nation. Many would point to sports star Richard as having provided both inspiration and momentum for the process of defining Canadian identity.
