Construction
The stitches that baste each piece of cloth to a paper pattern still
remain because the sewing project was never completed. Therefore, the
unfaded dress and furnishing fabrics are excellent examples of what was
used at that time. The hexagon pieces were assembled with fine sewing,
about 8 to 10 stitches per cm (18 to 20 per inch).
History
The unknown maker was presumably someone with leisure time who had access
to an array of fancy imported cottons, many of which date from the late
1700s.
