Heather Pringle’s latest book The Mummy Congress presents the world of mummies, from the painted child mummies of Chinchorro to the gold-masked ones of Egypt, to those found in the bogs of Europe. Ms. Pringle’s book is based on her experience in Arica, Chile, where 180 professionals of various vocations and from various locales congregated to discuss their continuing obsession — mummies.

Author of two books, The Mummy Congress: Science, Obsession, and the Everlasting Dead and In Search of Ancient North America: An Archaeological Journey to Forgotten Cultures, she has also been a contributor to numerous magazines, including Science, Discover, New Scientist, National Geographic Traveler, Geo and Saturday Night. For her commitment to magazine journalism, Ms. Pringle received the American Association for the Advancement of Science 2001 Science Journalism Award for Excellence in Magazines.
