Ms. Michèle Alderton appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation


Gatineau, Quebec, April 16, 2003 — Ms. Michèle Alderton of Red Lake, Ontario has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC).

As Director/Curator of the Red Lake Museum since 1996, Ms. Alderton has dedicated herself to local history, recognizing the potential for cultural and heritage tourism. Municipal Councillor for the Township of Golden between 1988 and 1994, Ms. Alderton was Chair of the Golden Heritage and Publicity Committee and played a leading role in the preservation of historical landmarks and major collections.

In 1996 she was awarded the Ontario Heritage Foundation Achievement Award for the booklet “Uncovering Our Heritage: An Inventory of the Heritage and Cultural Resources in the Red Lake Region.” She has recently been nominated for the Northern Ontario Business Association Woman of Influence Awards.

Ms. Alderton, originally of Hearst, Ontario, has a keen interest in and appreciation for history and has witnessed how a vibrant arts and heritage environment plays an important role in fostering civic pride and social cohesion.

Ms. Alderton’s broad experience will contribute to the Corporation’s objectives of promoting a greater understanding of Canadian identity, history and culture.
