GEO-ZOOOOM!

NEW EXHIBITION AT CANADIAN CHILDREN'S MUSEUM TAKES FUN LOOK AT GEOGRAPHY

Hull, Quebec, October 20, 1998 — A new exhibition called Geo-Zoooom! is moving in to the Canadian Children's Museum this week. It's a fun-filled, hands-on tour of our neighbouring country to the south, designed to delight visitors as they discover the exciting world of geography.

Children will step into the Kaleidoscope Gallery to find the floor transformed into a map of North America. Rising from the floor is a giant, table-top, interactive map highlighting special attractions, geographical features and cultural events in ten cities. Complete with buildings, roads, tracks and mountains, children will be fascinated by this miniature world that brings geography into perspective.

Every part of the tour offers exciting activities that open up children's eyes to the wonders of geography and give them the opportunity to practice or try out skills in map-reading, arithmetic, navigation, building, observation and even music appreciation. Each destination lends itself to special activities such as:
  • constructing a building in San Francisco that can withstand earthquakes
  • piloting through the perilous waters of Sausalito Bay
  • playing at search-and-rescue in the Rocky Mountains near Denver
  • transporting grain from farm to market in Minneapolis-Saint Paul
  • building a bridge in Cleveland
  • walking the Indy 500
  • reating Houston out of puzzle pieces
  • listening to the Blues in Memphis
Also, since half the fun can be in getting there, Geo-Zoooomers can travel by train, truck, boat or car. Visitors will be amazed at how far this geography exhibition can take them.
Geo-Zoooom! opens October 24, 1998 at the Canadian Children's Museum and continues through to January 24, 1999.
