As a volunteer, you will experience an exciting concept in the world of museums
Museums like ours should essentially provide the public with an understanding of its collective heritage and the diversity of individual cultures and backgrounds. With more than three million artifacts, magnificent display facilities, a vast store of research material, unmatched communications technology and interpretive programmes, the Museums will certainly do that. Your experiences with us will be more stimulating than those provided by traditional museums, because far more is planned!

As a volunteer, you will have a wide choice of projects
The Museums can provide an interesting outlet for anyone's energies, regardless of the individual's talent or background. Training is provided when necessary. Do you enjoy meeting and working with people? Or perhaps you are interested in the arts and sciences? There are many interesting and varied projects that do not require a big commitment of time. Each one offers opportunities to learn new skills. You could, for example, assist the History and Archaeology or the Ethnology and Cultural Studies divisions, help with administrative tasks in the Canadian Children's Museum, paddle a Haida canoe, or perhaps provide behind-the-scenes help to artists and performers.
The Programmes and Canadian Children's Museum Division and the Canadian War Museum also offer Volunteer Interpreter Programmes (VIP) that allow trained volunteers to interact with Museum visitors in special exhibitions while providing fascinating exhibition highlights on different themes presented throughout the year.
As a volunteer, the opportunity to experience variety, change and new challenges is all yours.
As a volunteer, your rewards, though not monetary, will be real
Because you will be doing an important task in helping enhance two of the world's greatest museums, you can look forward to a sense of achievement. There is an opportunity for personal growth through training, social contacts, various cultural or historical assignments, and exposure to the latest communications technologies. Students can learn skills and work habits that will serve them well in the future. Retired people can find a new niche or revive forgotten skills, maintaining that sense of involvement that keeps us young and active!
Your contribution will be recognized! Volunteers are invited to special receptions and events, have liability insurance coverage while on assignment and, after a specified number of volunteer hours, receive a series of other benefits.

As a volunteer, you will find the system works
The Corporate Volunteer Services are responsible for supplying the right volunteers to specific projects, as requested by the employees. To handle these requests, the Volunteer Services function like a placement office. A database holds the pertinent information on registered volunteers, along with their skills and interests. When staff make a request to the Volunteer Services, volunteers are contacted and, if they are interested and possess the qualifications, they are assigned to the project. This ensures a good service, a good fit and an open line of communication.
