The Valentine’s Day Ball: a place where love and friendship join hands with generosity

Gatineau, February 14, 2005 – More than 400 guests enjoyed the music of a big band this evening as they gathered at the Canadian Museum of Civilization for the Annual Valentine’s Day Ball. This special celebration of love and friendship is a fundraising event that benefits the Canadian Postal Museum.

Numerous businesspeople, diplomats, ministers, Members of Parliament, and leaders of national associations congregated in the Grand Hall of the Canadian Museum of Civilization, suffused by a romantic mood created by an enchanting décor of flowers, candles and coloured light.

The 2005 Edition of the Valentine’s Day Ball was co-chaired by the Honourable Liza Frulla, Minister of Canadian Heritage, and Ms. Anne Joynt, CEO of Canada Post. Many other Ministers were in attendance, including the Honourable John McCallum, Minister Responsible for Canada Post; the Honourable Pierre Pettigrew, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and the Honourable Mauril Bélanger, Associate Minister of National Defence.

Thanks to this, the 6th Annual Valentine’s Day Ball, the Friends of the Canadian Postal Museum were able to present a cheque for $50,000 to their favourite museum, whose mission is to preserve and promote Canada’s rich postal heritage.

"Over the years, this annual event has really become a highlight on the city’s social calendar, where love and friendship join hands with generosity," said Charles Verge, President of the Friends of the Canadian Postal Museum.

Many lucky guests went home with wonderful door prizes, including two tickets to travel with Air Canada, a week for two at the beautiful Club Marival resort in Nuevo Vallarta (including airfare on Air Transat), two watches from Birks Jewellers, a set of Head/Tyrolia tennis equipment and a gift basket from the SAQ including two highly prized vintages, a Château Valandrau 1995, and a Château Ausone 2000.
