Museum Welcomes Eastern Ontario to its Library Partnership Programme

Gatineau, Quebec, February 23, 2005 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC) is proud to join forces with the public libraries of Eastern Ontario by offering a Museum Privilege Card that can be borrowed by library members.

The card provides free admission for a family of four to the Canadian Museum of Civilization — which houses the Canadian Postal Museum and the Canadian Children’s Museum — as well as the affiliated Canadian War Museum.

“This is an important partnership, as it makes the museums even more accessible to the public,” says Dr. Victor Rabinovitch, President of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation. “We are very excited about sharing our exhibitions, our programmes and our collections with the widest possible public.”

This partnership with the public libraries of Eastern Ontario is similar to agreements that already exist with the Ottawa Public Library, the City of Gatineau Municipal Library and the Centre régional de services aux bibliothèques publiques de l’Outaouais. By offering access to the museums, this innovative programme also links institutions which are dedicated to the promotion of education and the dissemination of knowledge.

Users of the Museum Privilege Card will be able to visit all of the Museums’ special exhibitions, including the upcoming Cool ’60s Design: a colourful exhibition celebrating Canadian craft and design from the 1960s which opens to the public on February 25, 2005. Users will also be able to visit the new Canadian War Museum, opening on May 8, 2005, which features a stunning architectural design, innovative exhibitions, diverse public programmes and leading-edge scholarly content.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization and the Canadian War Museum offer visitors of all ages a fascinating range of exhibitions and programmes which are designed to appeal to a variety of interests.
