On tour with "Rocket" Richard: The Legend — The Legacy
Gatineau, Quebec, March 9, 2005 — And they’re off! The Canadian Museum of Civilization is proud to announce that the popular exhibition "Rocket" Richard: The Legend — The Legacy, which attracted more than 190,000 people during its run at the Museum, starts its official tour in September 2005.
From September 9, 2005 to February 26, 2006, more than 90 remarkable objects from the exhibition will be presented at the Musée québécois de culture populaire, in Trois-Rivières, Quebec. Highlights will include the last Number 9 sweater that the Rocket wore as a player with the Montreal Canadiens, hockey sticks used to score landmark goals, as well as various trophies, pucks, sweaters, photos and documents. More than half of these objects belonged to Maurice Richard.
Although the exhibition is on tour, it is still possible to visit it virtually at http://www.civilization.ca/hist/rocket/rocket1e.html. Internet users can hear stories and see images and photos of important goals and prizes from each of the Rocket’s hockey seasons — all illustrating Maurice Richard’s accomplishments. Virtual visitors will discover how this sports hero became a legend in Quebec, an idol in Canada and a celebrity around the world.
“The exhibition was designed to appeal to a broad public and to demonstrate how Maurice Richard was an integral part of our lives, a source of pride whose memory is venerated to this day. We are now very happy to continue offering the public an opportunity to see this exhibition, either where it will be shown on tour, or virtually,” said Dr. Victor Rabinovitch, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation.
This travelling exhibition is produced by the Canadian Museum of Civilization and sponsored by Canada Post. It will tour Canada from September 2005 to May 2010. Details concerning subsequent tour stops will be passed on to you as they become available.
