Coffee and Conversation on the
Dos and Don’ts of Asian Etiquette

Gatineau, Quebec, May 5, 2005 — On May 21, 2005, the Canadian Museum of Civilization celebrates Asian Heritage Month in association with the Ottawa Asian Heritage Month Society Inc. As part of our Coffee and Conversation series, guest experts will discuss the Dos and Don’ts in Asian Etiquette, particularly the rituals associated with business etiquette, social graces, dining and hospitality.

Certified Management Consultant, Haiyan Zhang, will provide an introduction to understanding Asian social culture. She will explain Chinese social values based on dignity rooted in confucianism, the concept of "face," and the importance of social and business connections.

Philippine socio-cultural expert, Natalia McArthur, will discuss the nuances of verbal and non-verbal communications, making first impressions, acceptable topics of conversation, and much more. The participants of this event will also gain insight into what to expect and how to behave when invited to a Philippine home for dinner.
