Kathak: Context and Continuity Gatineau, Quebec, May 11, 2005 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization presents an international sold-out event, Kathak: Context and Continuity, in partnership with Aroha Fine Arts, on May 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Theatre of the Museum. Kathak is a multimedia performance on the evolution of Kathak dance during India’s socio-political transformations. It will take the audience on a journey from Kathak’s beginnings in the oral traditions to its present day form as classical physical art.
The performance is choreographed by Anjali Patil, artistic director of Aroha Fine Arts, in collaboration with India’s foremost dance scholar Padmashri Dr. Sunil Kothari.
Aroha Fine Arts is dedicated to excellence in professional classical Indian dance through training, education, creation, and presentation. Founder and artistic director Anjali Patil is an acclaimed dancer and Kathak teacher, who was highlighted in Nartanam, India’s leading dance magazine in 2004. Trained by Padmashri Kumudini Lakhia and recipient of a Chalmer’s Award, she has been presented in many esteemed venues and television programs in Canada and India.
