This lecture, entitled Pompeii – Bringing the Ancient City to Life, is being given by Dr. Michele George from McMaster University, who will explore the consequences of the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius.
Through a combination of eyewitness accounts, contemporary vulcanology and archaeological excavation, archaeologists were able to reconstruct the life and times of the population who lived around the Bay of Naples on August 24, A.D. 79. Using images of houses, paintings and buildings, Dr. Holden will demonstrate how today’s excavations continue to unveil aspects of this ancient city.
