Canadian War Museum welcomes 125,000 visitors in its first month of operations
Ottawa, Ontario, June 14, 2005 — After only one month of opening its doors to the public, the Canadian War Museum (CWM) has welcomed over 125,000 visitors.
“We are delighted with the response to the new museum. The level of attendance for our first month of operations represents our average yearly attendance at the Sussex Drive Museum,” said J. (Joe) Geurts, Director and CEO of the CWM. “This museum is bringing Canada’s military into the mainstream of our identity.”
More than 27,000 people visited the Canadian War Museum during its Grand Opening weekend from May 7 to 8. In addition, some 40,000 students were booked to visit the Museum between the opening and mid-June.
The CWM, part of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC), is not the only Museum celebrating a milestone this spring. Since its 1989 opening, the Canadian Museum of Civilization welcomed 20,000,000 (20 million) visitors and has already attracted a quarter million visitors (250,000) this year.
“The tremendous success of the Canadian War Museum parallels the solid success at the Canadian Museum of Civilization,” said Dr. Victor Rabinovitch, President and CEO of CMCC, “These are prime attractions for tourists and students who want a taste of Canadian history, society, and places where people come to life.”
