Free Admission on Canada Day at the Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of Civilization

Gatineau, Quebec, June 22, 2005 — On July 1, admission is free to both the Canadian War Museum and the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Visitors are welcome to explore both Museums’ stunning permanent and special exhibitions on Canada Day, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Canadian War Museum

Take this opportunity to visit the Museum’s compelling new special exhibition: Art and War — Australia, Britain, and Canada in the Second World War. Presenting Second World War art treasures from three of the world’s largest military history museums — the Australian War Memorial, the Canadian War Museum and the Imperial War Museum — this exhibition explores how Canadian, Australian and British painters presented conflict as it was happening, from an individual, emotional and profoundly human point of view. Presented until September 25, 2005.

The Museum’s groundbreaking permanent exhibition is divided into four chronological galleries. Each gallery highlights defining moments in Canada’s military history, and the ways in which past events have shaped the nation. Discover The Royal Canadian Legion Hall of Honour, which documents the history of honouring Canadians. Throughout each gallery, engaging multimedia displays help to create a truly moving experience.

Visitor services include a full-service library and archives, a boutique, a riverside café, dedicated spaces for rest and reflection, a 231-seat theatre, four ateliers and 310 indoor parking spaces.

The Canadian Museum of Civilization is the only Canadian venue for this world-renowned exhibition. Presented until September 12, 2005. Please note: to visit the POMPEII exhibition, ticket purchase required (5$ at Box Office, except children and members)..
