WHERE Canada Names the Canadian War Museum One of the Top Ten Places to Visit this Summer

Ottawa, Ontario, July 11, 2005 — The Canadian War Museum (CWM) was pleased to learn that WHERE Canada magazine has named it one of this summer’s top ten Canadian attractions.

“It is an honour for the Museum to be listed among Canada’s top ten summer tourist attractions,” said Joe Geurts, Director and CEO of the CWM. “The Museum is a must-see destination for visitors to the National Capital Region, as it is for all Canadians.”

Attendance may have had some bearing on the Museum’s inclusion in this list. Since it opened on May 8 of this year, the CWM has already attracted 200,000 people.

Throughout the summer, visitors can enjoy the permanent Canadian Experience Galleries, and also two special exhibitions — including the world premiere of Art and War: Australia, Great Britain and Canada during the Second World War. This major international exhibition, featuring works of art that have never before been publicly displayed, offers a moving look at the conflict from a profoundly human point of view. Art and War will be presented in the Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae Gallery until September 25, 2005.

The Canadian War Museum is also worth seeing for its architecture. Already considered an architectural masterpiece, the Museum’s design was conceived by internationally renowned architect Raymond Moriyama, of the Toronto firm Moriyama & Teshima, in association with Griffiths Rankin Cook of Ottawa.

The Museum is open seven days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Thursdays and Fridays until 9:00 p.m. Admission is free on Thursday from 4:00 to 9:00 p.m., and half-price all day on Sunday.
