Naïma Bendris and A. Webster Macdonald, Jr. Appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation
Gatineau, Quebec, July 18, 2005 — Naïma Bendris, of Montreal, Quebec, and A. Webster Macdonald, Jr., of Calgary, Alberta, have both recently been appointed as part-time members of the Board of Trustees of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC).
Dr. Bendris received her doctorate in sociology from the University of Montreal in 2005. She has undertaken varied research, particularly in the fields of sociology and anthropology — both at the University of Montreal and at many other universities, including Laval University, the University of Quebec in Montreal, York University, the University of Sherbrooke, and Queen's University.
In addition, she has been a member of the Réseau québécois de chercheuses féministes, the Réseau des chercheurs et chercheuses sur les communautés arabes au Canada, the Table de concertation des organismes de Montréal au services des réfugiés, and the Comité québécois femmes et développement de L’Association québécoise des organismes de coopération internationale.
A lawyer by profession, Mr. Macdonald has been a partner in several large legal firms including: Macdonald, Macdonald, Sullivan, MacDonald & Pope (1970–1979); Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer (1979–1986); Singleton, Urquhart, Macdonald (1986–1995); and Blake, Cassels & Graydon (1995–2004).
His roles with the Glenbow Museum have included Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1999 to 2000, Chairman of the Board of Directors from 2000 to 2002, and member of the Board of Directors from 2003 to 2004. Mr. Macdonald was also a member of the Calgary Police Commission from 1994 to 1997, and served terms as the Commission’s Chairman and Vice-Chairman.
