Fun Workshops on Métis Arts at the Canadian Museum of Civilization Gatineau, Quebec, August 8, 2005 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization invites you to participate in workshops on hide-tanning, rock art and cattail dolls, from August 18 to 21. Instructors will demonstrate various Aboriginal arts, and participants can try their hand at these age-old techniques.
On August 18 and 19, Jeffrey Coleclough will delve into ancient hide-tanning methods and talk about how hides were used in everyday life. At the same time, Kathleen Coleclough will be helping you produce your own work of rock art as you experiment with techniques dating back to Ice Age cave painting. Then, on August 20 and 21, Jeffrey will teach you how to make a cattail doll, using natural plant materials.
The instructors are a husband-and-wife team, both of Ojibway descent. They are the founders of Kakwa: a Métis initiative based in southeastern Saskatchewan, which provides educational programmes to museums, historic sites, schools, and school boards.
