More than 1 million visited Canadian Museum of Civilization and Canadian War Museum in just four months Gatineau, Quebec, August 25, 2005 — With more than 1 million visitors since the start of the fiscal year on April 1, the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation (CMCC) is breaking attendance records at both of its museums, the Canadian Museum of Civilization (CMC) and the Canadian War Museum (CWM).
The number of visitors represents a 36 per cent increase over last year for the same period. “This is quite amazing as we usually expect about 1.4 million visitors per year,” said Dr. Victor Rabinovitch, President and CEO of the CMCC. “Many factors contributed to our current success, such as the opening of the new Canadian War Museum and the continuing popularity of the Canadian Museum of Civilization.”
The huge success of the new CWM since its opening explains part of these record-breaking numbers. Since May 8, the CWM attracted more than 300,000 visitors, more than double the previous average yearly attendance at the former site on Sussex Drive.
The Canadian Museum of Civilization reports an increase of 13% over last year with more than 768,000 visitors to date. It is the most visited museum in the country, with multiple attractions such as the Canadian Children’s Museum and the Canadian Postal Museum, Canada Hall, First Peoples Hall and IMAX®.
The CMC and the CWM are museums where history and people come to life. The variety of programmes and services, the quality of the permanent and special exhibitions such as POMPEII and Art and War, and the excellence of the service provided by the Corporation’s staff are all important factors in the CMCC’s success.
