Extended hours until September 12 for POMPEII and other special exhibitions

Gatineau, Quebec, September 7, 2005 — The Canadian Museum of Civilization is extending its hours for POMPEII, the dramatic exhibition of 500 artifacts, before it closes next Monday, September 12 at 6 p.m. Over 100,000 people have seen the authentic jewellery, statues, tools, furniture, wall-sized frescoes, haunting body casts and other significant objects that tell the story of victims of the ancient world’s most infamous natural disaster.

POMPEII will be open to visitors until 9 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening, September 8, 9 and 10. Visitors will also be able to enjoy two other unique temporary exhibitions on the Museum’s main level: Cool ’60s Design and A Caring Profession: Centuries of Nursing in Canada.

N.B.: There is a charge of $5.00, in addition to regular Museum admission to visit POMPEII (not applicable to children and members). Advance purchase is recommended; timed-ticketing is in effect. Museum admission is free every Thursday after 4:00 p.m. and half-price on Sundays.
