60th Anniversary of the UN at the Canadian War Museum


Ottawa, Ontario, October 20, 2005 — The Canadian War Museum, in association with the National Capital Branch of the United Nations Association in Canada, will present a full day of activities on Thursday October 27, designed to mark the 60th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.

Activities Include:

9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Stop and Learn Stations (in the Lobby)
Stations will be installed to provide visitors with more information on various activities of the United Nations. Topics covered include: What kind of World, UNESCO, UNICEF, World Food Programme, Refugees and HIV/AIDS.

9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Model UN (Ateliers C and D)
Some 30 High School students from 5 local schools will participate in a model United Nations session to debate and negotiate a declaration on the role of Peacekeeping.

9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Witness to History (Canadian Experience Galleries)
Meet men and women who have participated in various United Nations activities, from Peacekeeping and Peace Support Operations to Rebuilding.

7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
Screening of Face of Victory (Ateliers C and D)
Director Kevin McMahon will present his new documentary on the fascinating history of the United Nations. The screening will be followed by a round-table discussion with guests McMahon, Kathryn White (Executive Director, UN Association in Canada) and the Honourable Aileen Carroll (Minister of International Cooperation) and Reg Redknap (Korean War veteran and Peacekeeper).
