to promote Museum's 150th anniversary

Gatineau, Québec, November 15, 2005 — Ottawa resident Maria Borda is the winner of the photography contest organized by the Canadian Museum of Civilization (CMC) to mark its 150th anniversary next year. The contest entitled "How Do You See Your Museum?" asked participants to photograph the Museum in all its curvaceous glory, in order to create an image that was both unique and representative of this architectural masterpiece; the prizewinning photo would be reproduced on the commemorative poster celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Museum in 2006.

More than 30 photographers submitted their work to the Museum. The winner was selected by a jury composed of Victor Rabinovitch, President and CEO of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation; Harry Foster, professional photographer (recently retired from the CMC); Dario Catana, Design Manager, CMC; Stéphane Breton, Graphic Designer, CMC; Julie Marion, Advertising and Promotions Officer, CMC; Odette Dumas, Chief, Corporate Communications, CMC; and Dennis Fletcher, Technician, Iconographic Archives, Canadian War Museum.

In addition to awarding the first prize to Maria Borda, the jury selected two semifinalists: Maurice Migneault, of Ottawa and Gilbert Troutet of Gatineau.

The winner and the two semifinalists will receive a Duo membership for one year as well as a one-year IMAX® CLUB membership, a gift certificate to the Café du Musée, and a book on the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Ms. Borda will also receive a laminated copy of the poster which will feature her prizewinning photo. Likewise, Maurice Migneault and Gilbert Troutet will receive laminated copies of their photos.

Next year, the Canadian Museum of Civilization will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a host of activities, including a grand open house on May 14. The CMC began its life in May 1856, as part of the Geological Survey of Canada. The young museum grew into the National Museum of Canada and then, into the National Museum of Man. In 1986, it became the Canadian Museum of Civilization, moving into its magnificent Gatineau buildings three years later.
