Holiday Programming at the Canadian War Museum Ottawa, Ontario, December 16, 2005 — The Canadian War Museum is pleased to announce its special programming for the holidays. Covering some 5,000 years of history, the Canadian War Museum is Canada’s national museum of military history, presenting the personal, national, and international dimensions of these times while showing visitors how Canada has been shaped by its participation in various wars and conflicts throughout the ages.
Operation Santa Claus — FREE! Lobby Every weekend in December Daily from December 26 to January 2 Write your holiday greeting to Canadian troops serving overseas on special cards. Presented in partnership with the Canadian Forces Personnel Support Agency.
Hands-On History — FREE WITH MUSEUM ADMISSION Canadian Experience Galleries (Permanent Exhibition) Daily Join these lively demonstrations and find out how army surgeons treated wounds, or how Canadians prepared to invade Normandy. Children can make their own medals or write a poem about their museum experience.
The Big Picture — FREE WITH MUSEUM ADMISSION Lt-Col John McCrae Gallery Daily from December 26 to January 2 Weekends (until April 30) As part of the Weapons of Mass Dissemination: The Propaganda of War exhibition, these creative workshops allow children of all ages (and adults too!) to discover the power of words and images as they make their own propaganda posters.
The Canadian War Museum will be open daily from December 20 to January 2, including New Year’s Day. The Museum will close at 3 p.m. on December 24 and remain closed on December 25. Opening hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Thursdays until 9 p.m.
