Canadian Museum of Civilization to present The Lands within Me: Expressions by Canadian Artists of Arab Origin on October 19, 2001

Hull, Quebec, September 28, 2001 — The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Museum of Civilization Corporation, Dr. Victor Rabinovitch, today made the following statement regarding the presentation of the exhibition The Lands within Me: Expressions by Canadian Artists of Arab Origin.

“Over the last few days, we have received calls and correspondence from Canadians who believe that the exhibition The Lands within Me should be presented as scheduled. We have also heard from public figures who believe the exhibition could contribute at this time to the building of tolerance and understanding.

“The Canadian Museum of Civilization is a public institution that is committed to promoting greater harmony among Canadians. The Lands within Me is an exhibition of works by contemporary artists informed by their unique experiences and perspectives. Part of the ongoing work of the Museum over many years is to express the experiences of the diverse cultural groups that make up the broader Canadian community.

“Taking our mandate into consideration, and following consultation with our Board of Trustees, the Museum has decided to present the exhibition The Lands within Me, as originally scheduled on October 19, 2001.

“We invite Canadians and foreign visitors to view this exhibition. We hope it will inform and interest the many people who come to see it.”
