The Mysterious Bog People
The Mysterious Bog People is a joint international exhibition project of the Drents Museum in Assen, The Netherlands, the Niedersächsisches Landesmuseum in Hannover, Germany, the Glenbow Museum in Calgary, Alberta, and the Canadian Museum of Civilization. Discover the fascinating history of the peoples of northwestern Europe who, for 10,000 years, sacrificed their most precious objects, including human bodies, in the bogs.
Content:
330 artefacts from the collections of the Drents Museum, and the Niedersächsisches Landesmuseum, including:
- jewellery, household items like wooden bowls, spoons;
- stone axes, daggers, musical instruments;
- pieces of gold – gold vessel, coins;
- clothing, antlers, pottery, remains of a temple, and pagan idols (statuettes); also features unique objects such as:
- 6 bog bodies
- the Sulingen dug-out canoe (an almost 1000 year-old artefact of 8 m / 25 ft. long), oldest wheel and plough ever found
- 8 DVD presentations, including a multimedia environmental introduction.
- Exciting Forensic Laboratory component: Bog Science Investigation + Teachers’ Guide for school groups
- A complementary landscape exhibition of 50 framed photographs by Wolfgang Bartels and 3 large Bartels photo murals.
