Hands Can

Set in Oaxaca, Mexico, this home shows just what hands can do - everything from making tortillas to producing crafts for sale in the local market - all part of daily life.

Welcome to the casa (home). Clay and straw are the perfect materials to build a house where the sun shines most of the year. Step into the coolness.

We're having tortillas for supper. The tortilla press is used to flatten them out. Rolling tortillas is always fun - mix thought and work, and then they're done.

¡Hola! It's market day tomorrow. Many hands are needed at the table on the solar to make crafts for the market. Everyone, from the youngest to the oldest, helps get things ready. In this way families learn and grow together.
