MASTERS of the Plains: Ancient Nomads of Russia and Canada
From: December 1, 2006 To: September 3, 2007 |
This exhibition compares the ancient culture histories of two northern grassland regions - the Russian steppes and the Northern Great Plains of North America. For thousands of years the North American grasslands and the Russian steppes have proven to be richly resourced, hotly contested, difficult to defend regions at the hearts of their respective continents. These regions have been crucibles that drew people from all directions, mixing and transforming them, while also influencing adjoining regions on all sides. Today, the Northern American Great Plains contains many people whose origins reach back to the European steppes.
