Imperial Austria: Treasures of Art, Arms and Armour from the State of Styria
From: November 23, 1995 To: September 15, 1996 |
(Borrowed from the Musée de la Civilisation)
Threatened by the expansion of Islam and the Turkish invasion, Austria took up arms against the Turks, winning a decisive victory over them in 1664 at the Battle of Mogersdorf in Styria. This exhibition bears witness to that period with nearly 300 artifacts from the armoury of Graz and private collections, including arms, armour, votive tablets, sculptures, and paintings dating from the fifteenth to the seventeenth centuries.
