Mothers of Time: Seven Paleolithic Figurines from the Louis Alexandre Jullien Collection
From:  April 9, 1995
To:      October 26, 1995

This exhibition features an extraordinary collection of miniature carvings from the Upper Palaeolithic period — most of them female forms — recently rediscovered by chance in a Montreal shop by a sculptor. The figurines are estimated to be between 20,000 and 25,000 years old and are considered to be significant as fertility symbols. They were originally uncovered at a site in Italy (Balzi Rossi), close to the French border, in 1883 and while in the collection of the Jullien family, found their way to Quebec.
