Lifelines: Canada’s East Coast Fisheries
From:  April 6, 2001
To:      February 24, 2002

The recent loss of the North Atlantic cod stocks has drawn public attention to the way in which the "harvest" of marine resources that once supported a way of life has resulted in their severe depletion. Communities which once depended upon fishing are now facing dispersal. The exhibit covers the ground fishery, whaling, sealing, lobsters, as well as the sports fishery. It seeks to demonstrate the relationship of the fisher and the resource or the "community of fish and the community of fishers".

Presented in collaboration with the Newfoundland Museum, the New Brunswick Museum, the PEI Museum and Heritage Foundation, and the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia. Sponsors: The Ottawa Citizen and the CBC.
