On a map drawn in 1612, Samuel de Champlain drew one of the first sketches of North-American natives living in Canada. Here we see a couple of Montagnais natives.

  • First inhabitants

    When European explorers claimed to take possession of North America in the name of the monarchs they represented, the territory was occupied by several Amerindian nations.

    One hundred subjects flow from this theme, permitting a better grasp of the challenges with which both indigenous and European cultures were faced: meetings, support in exploring the territory, relations with the French, special relationships with the Hurons, participation in Anglo-French conflicts, Amerindian influence on clothing, food, place names...
