Jacques Cartier's journalFacsimile of the manuscript of Jacques Cartier's journal, in which he describes his second journey to Canada in 1535. Having left Saint-Malo on May 19 with three ships, the Grande Hermine, the Petite Hermine and the Émérillon, he landed on July 7 on l'Île des Oiseaux in Newfoundland. During this voyage, Jacques Cartier explored the Saint Lawrence River to Hochelaga (Montréal). That year, the winter was particularly harsh and several of his men died of scurvy. |
