Canada Agriculture Museum

September highlights at the Canada Agriculture Museum include an Open House on the Central Experimental Farm on Saturday, September 9, and a variety of informative Daily Demonstrations throughout the month for children and adults of all ages. On weekends visitors will have the chance to ride on the Tally- Ho Wagon, weather permitting. The Museum's animal barns feature a wide variety of live farm animals. There are also plenty of outdoor spaces, on the grass or at picnic tables, for snacking or resting while enjoying informative and hands-on activities.

Open House on the Central Experimental Farm - September 9
The Central Experimental Farm is hosting an open house on Saturday, September 9, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Featured throughout the day are fun science displays, interactive games, tea with the Friends of the Farm in the Arboretum, 4-H Club doing crafts with the children as well as free admission and parking at the Canada Agriculture Museum. Also, visitors can come and examine the contents of a time capsule before it's locked and sealed for the next twenty years. They can learn how to create their own wildlife backyard by visiting the Fletcher Wildlife Garden. The main exhibit tent is located beside the parking lot of the Canada Agriculture Museum, south of the traffic circle. For more information, please call 613 759-1000 or visit www.agr.gc.ca.

September’s Activities
Among the many daily demonstrations, visitor can learn all about milk, meet Goody the Museum’s Hereford bull and help feed the sheep. On weekends museum-goers can learn all about the nutritious sunflower seed and take home some delicious recipes. Museum-goers can discover the exhibition The Farm: Plugged-In and discover the impact electricity had on farmers' routine household chores, from the turn of the last century to today, in this exhibition tracing the period of rural electrification in Canada. In Tractors, visitors can follow the 100-year-old story of the farm tractor from unfamiliar oddity to commonplace tool on the Canadian farm.

Daily Demonstrations
Every day, visitors can learn more about Canadian agriculture and about the food and fibres that make our way of life possible by taking in the Museum’s daily demonstrations.

  • On weekends, in our Demonstration Kitchen (Exhibitions), at 10:00, 12:30 and 2:00, our friendly interpreter will dish out delicious facts and recipes based on nutritious sunflower seeds.
  • Children’s Activity Centre located on the Exhibitions level (for children 6 years old and younger).

Special Invitation to Seniors
Every Tuesday is the perfect chance for seniors to learn about Canada's agricultural heritage. Free admission for seniors (60+) from now until October.

BIRTHDAY PARTIES
Two hours of fun, food, and animals. A Museum Educator leads the group through a visit of the barns, ice cream making, and a craft. Available year-round for ages 3 to 12. For information and registration call 613 991-3053.

The Canada Agriculture Museum connects Canadians and the world to the historical and current importance in everyday life of agricultural science and technology through engaging interpretive activities and products centred on an accessible demonstration farm.
