Warm Woolly Winterlude Sheep Saturday, February 11 and Sunday, February 12, 2006 OTTAWA, February 3, 2006 To celebrate Winterlude, the Canada Agriculture Museum this year presents Warm Woolly Sheep demonstrations on Dows Lake Saturday and Sunday, February 11 and 12, 2006 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting. Canada's cold winter climate made wool a necessity. For two days, visitors can learn more about Canada's first settlers' winter work. The Canada Agriculture Museum invites children and adults of all ages to its demonstration tent on Dows Lake to try their hand at carding wool with Museum interpreters and also to learn about some of wool's best guarded secrets. Working with wool is a natural for Winterlude's "Winter Experience" program. In the past, during the winter season, pioneers would take advantage of this period of the year to work with wool, since the labour was over in the fields. There are many steps when working with wool such as shearing, carding washing, dyeing and spinning. The balls of yarn were used afterwards to knit or weave clothing or blankets. Activities
