A Barnyard Hallowe'en at the Canada Agriculture Museum

OTTAWA, October 20, 2006

PumpkinBoo! It’s the annual Hallowe’en Party, Sunday, October 29 at the Canada Agriculture Museum. Children will love the Museum’s Barnyard Hallowe’en, with a trick-or-treat scavenger hunt in the barns, caramel apple making and pumpkin dessert bread making, games, a costume parade around the grounds and pumpkin decorating ($1 while supplies last). A variety of daily demonstrations, such as meeting Nel, the Canadian breed horse and "cooking" for cow, will be available throughout the event, as well as Tally-Ho Wagon Rides, weather permitting ($).

The following are some of the activities, displays and demonstrations that will be featured at the Museum during Barnyard Hallowe’en on Sunday, October 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.:

Pumpkin Dessert Bread Making (10:00, 11:00, 1:00, 2:00, 3:00)
Visitors can learn interesting facts about the pumpkin and can assist with the making of this pumpkin dessert bread. Sample and recipe will be available.

Caramel Apple Making (10:30, 11:30, 1:30, 2:30, 3:30)
Visitors will learn how the apple is related to Hallowe’en. They will also have the chance to sweeten their tooth by tasting a sample delicious caramel apples. Recipe will be available to bring home.

Costume Parade (12:00 noon)
Children in costume can join a parade in Memory Park to show off their Hallowe’en disguise and receive afterward a Hallowe’en treat for participating.

Pumpkin Decorating (ongoing)
Children can decorate, with different craft materials, a pumpkin to take home ($1 per pumpkin as long as supplies last; limit one pumpkin per child).

Scavenger Hunt (ongoing)
Visitors can go on a scavenger hunt adventure in the animal barns and exhibitions. All participants will receive a Hallowe’en treat.

Pumpkin Game (ongoing)
Children can have fun with pumpkins by trying out the pumpkin game!

Bean Bag Toss Game (ongoing)
Children will enjoy the bean bag toss game.

Toy Tractors (ongoing)
Children six years and younger will have fun driving toy tractors around bales of straw.

Colouring (ongoing)
Young children can stop by the Snack Area to express their colouring creativity.

Visitors can discover the exhibitions Tractors and The Farm: Plugged-In.
Tally-Ho Horse-Drawn Wagon Rides on weekends until October 29 (weather permitting, $)
The Hot Potato Company will provide food services on October 21-22 and 28-29.

Every day in October visitors can learn more about Canadian agriculture and about the food and fibres that make our way of life possible.

The Canada Agriculture Museum connects Canadians and the world to the historical and current importance in everyday life of agricultural science and technology through engaging interpretive activities and products centred on an accessible demonstration farm.
