    Public Programming

The public programming function of the Museum has the ultimate purpose of disseminating knowledge. The Canada Science and Technology Museum has been mandated to "foster scientific and technological literacy" and public programs are developed in support of this mandate.

The fostering of scientific and technological literacy is carried out at many levels in our society, including in the education system and through the media. The Museum, because of its fundamental responsibility to collect, preserve, and interpret Canada's scientific and technological heritage can play an important role. The Museum pursues the historical knowledge of science and technology without which our culture could not be understood, and maintains and interprets those objects which are the tangible evidence of our scientific and technological heritage.

In the development of its public programs, the Canada Science and Technology Museum encourages Canadians to discover, consider, and question past and recent developments in science and technology, and their relationship with society and the self. The Museum intends to inspire in its visitors a sense of identity and pride in Canada's scientific and technological history and achievements and to encourage active and informed participation by Canadians in the development of our technological society.

Public programming activities are carried out in support of the following objective:

To provide opportunities for a broad public audience
to enjoy an enriching museum experience.
