New Development Program for French-Speaking Writers and Producers Living Outside Quebec

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa — CBC/Radio-Canada is proud to contribute to the creation of a development program for French-speaking writers and producers living and working outside Quebec. This program, which was developed by l'Institut national de l'image et du son (INIS), was made possible through the cooperation of Telefilm Canada, the Interdepartmental Partnership with the Official-Language Communities (IPOLC) and l'Alliance des producteurs francophones du Canada.

This program will allow six Francophone writers and six Francophone producers living outside Quebec to develop their screenwriting and television production skills. This initiative flows from one of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission's (CRTC) recommendations following the CBC/Radio-Canada's application for licence renewal in January 2000.

At the time, the Commission had asked the Corporation to implement measures aimed at ensuring that Francophone communities outside Quebec would play a greater role in television programming in order to better reflect their needs and preoccupations.

"This initiative reaffirms our commitment to offer high-quality programming to Francophones and francophiles across the country by highlighting and reflecting the talent of creators and artists from all regions of Canada," said CBC/Radio-Canada President and CEO, Robert Rabinovitch.
