Robert Dawson Appointed Director, CBC/Radio-Canada Mobile Division

Toronto — CBC/Radio-Canada today announced the appointment of Robert Dawson as Director of the Corporation's new Mobile Division.

"With more than 30 years in the broadcasting industry Robert is the ideal person to lead the Mobile Division in its efforts to help CBC/Radio-Canada meet its internal production needs more efficiently," says Fred Mattocks, Executive Director, English Television Production & Resources and Chair of the Board of the Mobile Division. "Robert's vast experience will also be useful in helping the Division meet its other important objective: marketing excess production capacity to generate revenues for investment in programming, our core business."

Prior to joining CBC/Radio-Canada Mr. Dawson had, since 1990, been both owner and President of OMNI II Productions/Mad Moose TV, a Montreal-based production company. Fluently bilingual, he has worked as both a journalist and a senior executive, including stints as President of Le Réseau des sports, General Manager of CKAC Radio, and President of Transworld Television & Entertainment.

"CBC/Radio-Canada is one of this country's largest, most important news organizations and cultural institutions and I'm proud to be a part of this exciting initiative," said Mr. Dawson. "A broadcaster's mobile assets are critical to its success and I look forward to the challenge of bringing best practices in mobile production to bear and making a real contribution to the ongoing strengthening and renewal of CBC/Radio-Canada."

CBC/Radio-Canada created the Mobile Division in November 2003. Under Mr. Dawson's leadership the Division will be the single source of mobile services for CBC/Radio-Canada. By managing its mobile assets according to best practices the new Division will help the corporation to better meet its internal production needs in the most efficient manner possible. In turn, more efficient operations should create revenue-generating opportunities through external marketing of excess capacity.

Mr. Dawson will be based in Montreal and assumes his new position immediately.
