Shape Up Contest
![Ed Hlushko](/web/20061029155905im_/http://www.cbc.ca/manitoba/features/getmoving/images/ed_hlushko.jpg)
Congratulations to Ed Hlushko, winner of the Shape Up Contest on Up To Speed. Ed has won a one-year membership to the West Portage YMCA and a CBC prize package.
Ed has made some tremendous progress in the six-week challenge. When Ed found out that he had high cholesterol and high blood pressure, he knew he didn’t want to go on medication to control his health problems. With a healthy diet and exercise, as well as support from family and fitness coach Amy Tibbs, Ed has lost 25 pounds and has reduced his cholesterol levels and blood pressure significantly.
In the last three months, Ed has gained much more than good health; he’s boosted his self-confidence, has learned about the benefits of healthy eating and exercise, and made many friends during his workouts at the West Portage YMCA.
However, Ed says that the most significant gain from the project was a change to his mindset. He’s now hooked on exercise - in fact he doesn’t know why he waited so long. “It’s never too late to start,” he says.
