Hélène F. Fortin was appointed to the CBC/Radio-Canada Board of Directors in March 2003 for a five-year term. Ms. Fortin is Chair of the Audit Committee, and is a Member of the Standing Committees on English and French Language Broadcasting.

A chartered accountant from St. Lambert (Quebec), Ms. Fortin is a highly respected professional in the areas of accounting, assurance and finance. She also has widespread business experience. Since 1989, she has been a partner with Groupe HLA, a firm of chartered accountants in Longueuil/Brossard (Quebec), where she is responsible for assurance assignments of manufacturing, distribution, and services corporations, as well as non-profit organizations and holding companies.

From 1985 to 1989 Ms. Fortin was Assistant to the Vice-President, Acquisitions and Treasury, at Quebecor Inc. where her responsibilities included business acquisitions. Ms. Fortin began her career with the international firm Coopers & Lybrand (now PriceWaterhouse Coopers).

A graduate of Concordia University, Ms. Fortin holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in accounting and finance. She also received her Graduate Diploma in Public Accountancy from McGill University with great Honours.

A member of the Ordre des comptables agréés du Québec, she has been involved with the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants since 1982 on the interprovincial Board of Examiners, and is a member of the CICA Board of Evaluators since 2002. Ms. Fortin has taught, for more than fifteen years, undergraduate and graduate courses in administration faculties at a number of universities, including McGill and UQAM.

Ms. Fortin is married and the mother of two children. She does volunteer work for several charitable organizations and associations focusing on health, children, arts, and sports.
