Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement
In 1988, Canada signed the Free Trade Agreement with the United States. The issue was so contentious that it became the key to the federal election that year. In these activities, students will explore and summarize the key issues around the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, examine the influence of American culture on Canadian culture, role-play the debate on free trade, prepare campaign materials to support a position on free trade, and investigate in detail the positive and negative impacts of free trade agreements on Canada’s economy and society.
