With the Second World War just a few months old, London's historic Central Hall Westminster is the site of what radio announcers call "an occasion of unparalleled importance to our generation" — the convening of the First Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Nearly 2,000 people from 51 nations are here to witness the birth of an organization sworn to "maintaining peace on the basis of full international cooperation, and so alleviating the ills that beset mankind."
