  • A Lost Heritage: Canada's Residential Schools
Beginning in 1928, Aboriginal children were sent far from home to residential schools. Their history has become one of separation, denigration, and abuse. Some of the accounts of abuse are harrowing and may be very upsetting to younger students. Be careful when using this material, and be sensitive to the reality that some students may suffer abuse. It is recommended that you become familiar with the clips before using them. In these activities, students will explore and attempt to understand the clips, write letters and diary entries in role as aboriginal students, create scenarios for healing and reconciliation, and examine and analyze issues facing Canada’s Aboriginal community today.
