Chris is one quarter of the band Sloan: a rock band that has been 'making history' for just over 15 years. Chris and band mate Jay Ferguson have a show on Radio 3. Chris sometimes feels that his success has been hindered by his dealings with 'amateurs' and 'students'.
Chris's musical epiphanies include:
-seeing Kiss on the Paul Lynde Halloween Special (1976)
-singing an 'original' with a 'band' in front of my class on the stage in the school gym wearing a denim vest and no t-shirt (1977)
-quitting "guitar lessons", which never developed past ta ta titi ta clapping exercises (1977)
-hearing "Bodies" by The Sex Pistols at a class Christmas party (1980)
-being at a distant relative's house (I believe) in Regina and seeing the video for Whip It by Devo (1981)
-realising that the chord F is the chord E up one fret (1982)
-getting kicked out of percussion lessons because I always forgot my music because I thought playing xylophone was uncool - boy was I right (1983)
-hearing Minor Threat at the apartment of a friend of a friend across the street from my high school (1983)
-seeing Halifax local band The Realists whose members were not much older than me at a small club downtown (The Other Space?)
-jealously watching The Jellyfishbabies (kids in the grade behind me) put out a vinyl record AND the record was amazing (1985)
-playing my first show with my first real band, Wite Out, at The Canadian Bible Society (1986)
-seeing nomeansno live at The Rising Sun in Montreal (1986), seeing one of Fugazi's first shows on my second of 2 DC pilgrimages (1988)
-being taught how to resolve a harmony by my friend Andrew Glencross while recording the song "Prescription" with my band Kearney Lake Rd. (1988)
-finally figuring out how to bounce tracks properly on my 4-track (1989)
-working as a porter at the VG hospital in Halifax and hearing "You Made Me Realise" by My Bloody Valentine on Jay's college radio show (1990)
